Guess who was in for a bittersweet surprise this month? Don’t worry, that was a rhetorical question.

Somehow I never got the email from Julep telling me it was either time to skip the month, or pick a new box. By the time I realized that I was not going to get the email, it was already the 27th, or in other words – a bit too late.

Admittedly, I was rather sour about it, since when I checked the website to see what I would be getting in my American Beauty Maven box, I didn’t particularly like what I saw.

I’m not one for wearing bright green on my nails in all honesty, and my sensitive skin has a love-hate (mostly hate) relationship with countless SPF products.

But, alas – it did arrive just this Tuesday, and I was actually pleasantly surprised when I opened the box…

You’ll have to excuse me; I could not restrain myself from rifling through it before taking pictures…
So first, I noticed two polish wands packed up in bubble wrap. Julep of course had already thought to offer an explanation for the confused and curious, such as myself:

Pretty nifty, right?
I did try out the polishes, and thus far the wands seem to be working just splendidly, but it is nice to have backups.

Now, I actually opened up the Julep Daylight Defense SPF 15 Lip Balm right away, and was quite pleased with it. The formula is lovely – it soaks right in without a greasy or sticky residue, and the Vanilla Mint flavor is reminiscent of mint chocolate chip ice cream. Quite delicious, if you ask me!

I have yet to try the Daylight Defense SPF 30 Sunscreen, but like all other Julep products, it has a lovely aroma and smells much like oranges.

And, here we are – last, but not least! I decided to give my nails a quick swatch to see if these colors were going to be on the keep list, or not (I am pretty exclusively a classic French manicure sort of girl)…

Kindly ignore my dry cuticles; they have been repeatedly dipped in salicylic acid this past week.
“Be Bold” indeed! The colors are wonderfully vibrant, and definitely scream “Summer” in a non-obnoxious fashion. I admit, I am quite a fan of both – especially the wonderful raspberry shade, Lily. The green (Courteney) I can not see myself wearing very often as a stand-alone color, but I do feel that a watermelon nail design is somewhere in the works!

I have definitely enjoyed some of the colors I have received since switching to American Beauty, but I do feel that the quiz was correct in predicting I’d like Classic With A Twist more so than the other styles, so with that – I shall be switching back before the arrival of July’s box.

Well, there it is! My June 2012 Julep Maven box!
Hope you all have a fantastic weekend, and are enjoying the lovely weather!

Stay beautiful!
