My first Limited Edition NARS purchase, and one I have been lusting over for ages… the American Dream Eyeshadow Palette!

The American Dream Eyeshadow Palette retails for $55 USD, and features 6 different eyeshadows in the shades Bellissima, Alhambra, Silk Road, Galapagos, Bali, and Tzarine.

The packaging is of course, quintessentially NARS – gorgeous, display-worthy clean lines, but attracts messy little fingerprints and smudges like nobody’s business!

The palette itself is the exact same size as a NARS Pressed Powder, or a Bronzer.

And without any further ado, here are the swatches! I will update this post ASAP with another image of the swatches taken in natural light; this photo was taken in rather dim lighting, with the assistance of flash.

Am I satisfied with my purchase of this palette? To be perfectly honest, I am going to have to say no.

Don’t get me wrong – I am an extreme fan of NARS, and I love knowing that I have this palette rather than forever regretting not having it, but in retrospect I think I would have been happier had I purchased the Douceurs de Paris Eyeshadow Palette instead.

The reason being, I believe from the swatches I have viewed on other blogs that the Douceurs de Paris Eyeshadow Palette is more neutral/brown based, and those are colors I would definitely find myself wearing more often, since I am not at all a fan of colored eyeshadows. About as adventurous as I get is a hint of plum, or deep glittery navy blue, when it comes to color on my eyes. My eyes are hazel, so I find it much easier to work with browns, taupes, and grays.

I just do not find this to be a standalone palette, and in my opinion, the entire reason for purchasing a palette is for the ability to simply have everything you need for a complete eye-look all in one place. American Dream did not provide me with what I was looking for.

But with that said, I had high hopes for this palette, and so I will certainly  be exhausting my creativity with it, so as not to wind up entirely disappointed with my choice!

Again – just so as not to confuse anyone – the colors themselves are absolutely gorgeous, and someone with blue or brown eyes and a light to medium complexion would definitely be able to use any of these colors, and look simply stunning!

The pans of shadow are quite a reasonable size, though by comparison, I am guessing them to be only ½ the size of a single pan of NARS Eyeshadow.

The NARS American Dream Eyeshadow Palette ($55) is Limited Edition for Fall 2012 and can be purchased exclusively at NARS Cosmetics.

So what do you all think? Is this something you are considering purchasing, or have purchased and love? If so, definitely let me know in the comments!

I will try and get together a few different eye-looks using only this palette. Who knows – maybe with a little experimentation it will wind up being a favorite of mine.

I hope you all have a lovely Thanksgiving!

  1. I think the colors look gorgeous! But I agree with you in that it is not really a stand-alone palette. I do think Bellissima would look gorgeous all over the lid with a little bit of Alhambra smudged on the outer corner and the outer part of your lower lashline, especially with a inky black, thin cat eye and some falsies!

    • Sarah,
Ooh, I think that definitely would look beautiful! I will have to try wearing it that way.

I have also been placing Bellissima on the inner corner of my eye, Silk Road on the lid, smudging Bali along my upper lash line, and Tzarine along my lower lash line… this combo seems to work quite well for me!

  2. Those swatches look gorgeous! But you’re right there would have to be a couple more mattes or something to be an amazing standalone palette.

    • Mellie,

Yes, it really is a gorgeous palette – but I have found that I am unable to use this palette without the assistance of one or two other eyeshadows. Be it a high-glitter champagne/nude, or another matte, it was lacking something required to make it a go-to palette like say, the Urban Decay NAKED palette!

It’s a lovely palette. My favorite shade is silk road.
