Much love to the lovely miss Phyllis Li of Makeup For Life for sending me this… part of her recent blog giveaway!

First of all, I can’t even begin to say how excited I was to receive this! I have been eyeing it ever since it debuted at Sephora, and long afterward (Limeted Edition, only available now via NARS Cosmetics). For some reason I never could quite make up my mind to purchase but still desperately wanted to try it. So of course, all the sweeter that I just recently was given the opportunity to do so!

I notice the same thing now as I did when I swatched it at Sephora, last winter… the colors look far more pigmented and complex in the pan than they do on the eyelid.

You can see what I mean clearly in the swatch below (all swatches were applied on top of NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base).

Don’t get me wrong – I am so happy with this gorgeous palette – it’s just not one that can be used as a standalone, in my opinion. The colors are all very, very dark when applied… I have found that an application method such as this one works the best, using other colors to play it up.

The last color in the palette (black with silver glitter) is really the least exciting out of them all, as it shows up on the lid as a nearly matte black, unless applied quite heavily, in multiple layers. Eyeshadow primer is not optional with these colors.

In contrast, the first color is my favorite out of the entire palette (black with red glitter). It looks simply gorgeous worn alone, and when paired with NARS Eyeshadow in Mekong.

This palette is priced at $45 and can be purchased exclusively at NARS Cosmetics.

COUPON: Free shipping plus an Aigle Noir Soft Touch Shadow Pencil when you shop through NARS Cosmetics with promo code EYE50.

So tell me what you think in the comments! Would you spend $45 on this palette? If you own this palette, what is your favorite way to wear it?

Meanwhile… go check out the NARS x Andy Warhol Collection which is just now (November 1, 2012) available at NARS Cosmetics online!

Until next time, beauties!
