…Realized this blog has nearly been on a winter long hiatus, and that simply will not do.

Still alive! Just got rather sidetracked with all the joys of Instagram and flu season!

Also, in other news: C’est Bon will also be undergoing a little makeover, as I have come to the conclusion the post categories might be a little bit confusing for the curious first time visitor.

And my lovely friend Sarah brought to mind a question I often get asked, but have basically never addressed (easily sidetracked):

Ashley, what do you use on your lashes to make them so long and voluminous?!

In all honesty, I already have pretty long, and decently thick lashes. The biggest issue I have is with color, since my natural lashes grow in both blonde and brunette. Bane of my existence! But with all that having been said…

Yves Saint-Laurent Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking Mascara is what I use, and am totally in love with. For a little extra va-voom, I first apply a layer of Dior Diorshow Mascara on before the Yves Saint-Laurent.

My natural lashes; please kindly ignore the smeared residue of my Urban Decay 24/7 Shadow Pencil (in Delinquent, which is lovely)!

Only Yves Saint-Laurent Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking Mascara has been applied here (which you can see is simply fantastic at what it does).

Here I am wearing Yves Saint-Laurent Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking Mascara layered over Dior Diorshow Mascara for just a little extra plushness and volume.

As you can see, the combination of the two mascaras is pretty amazing. The only issue I find, is that Diorshow mascara can flake a lot, which you can see in the form of the little black speckles along my lower eyelid.

I am really quite terrible at applying false lashes (will not even try and skirt around the issue). Not sure if it’s simply due to my particular eye shape, or if I just lack some sort of basic motor skill that half the female population in the North America alone seems to be able to utilize, easy breezy!

A few closing sentiments:

I have not forgotten about my “Monthly Purchases” posts, but I have been terrible about seeing them through. I have about 3 months worth of those post in the works (I shop a lot, ladies – I need therapy for my retail therapy), so do be on the lookout for those!

I hope you all have been staying warm, and avoiding the dreaded wintertime influenza!

Until next time beauties,

    Thank you Ashley.
I always looking for mascara. I use Lancome for regular base it looks good and doesn’t dry lashes but consistency is terrible it is very liquid in the beginning and after that becomes dry. Dior mascara doesn’t work for me because my eyes are red and itchy when I use it. Could you answer me is Yves Saint-Laurent mascara damage lashes or it save for eyes and lashes?
    Thank you for nice article

    • Hello Olga!

I agree, I do notice that Diorshow flakes quite a bit, and is extremely irritating when it gets in my eyes.

As for Lancome, I love the Lancome Hypnose Star Mascara. I don’t mind the wet formula on my lashes, because it adheres quite well. Yves Saint-Laurent Shocking Mascara is also a wet formula, so bear that in mind.

I don’t find the YSL mascara to be particularly drying on my lashes, but some petroleum jelly on them every night can be very beneficial to keeping lashes hydrated, and plush.

I hope I answered all of your questions, but let me know if I missed anything!

My YSL Shocking Mascara is hands down my very favorite.

        Good morning Ashley
Thank you for your response. I am really happy to learn little bit more about mascara. I am going to try YSL next month.
Could you describe what “petroleum jelly” do you mean? I will Google it of cause but I would like to have your opinion because I trust you.
I used oil for my brows and lashes but it affected my eyes and I stopped using it.
        Thank you

        • Good morning from -7 GMT, Olga! (:

By petroleum jelly, I am simply talking about a product like Vaseline, which many people recommend applying with an old mascara wand to your lashes, as it is known to lock in moisture.

Petroleum jelly like Vaseline is inexpensive, but there are other alternatives out there for lash enhancement and health. I have used Vaseline and also Urban Decay Lush Lash System which worked well for me, and I did like it (and the results) quite a lot – although as a warning, the serum can really sting if it gets in your eyes!

I am not going to say that the YSL mascara absolutely will not sting or flake, because it definitely can do both, depending on how much you apply, or how sensitive your eyes are.

What I will say however, is that my eyes are fairly sensitive, and I have been very happy with my purchase of the YSL Shocking Mascara.

If you do try this product, definitely let me know what you think of it!

          ♥ Ashley

Hi I know this post is from a while ago but if you happen to remember what eyeshadow you’re wearing in the last two pictures I would love to know! Thank you so much :)
