I recently picked up a few of the NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencils, and I have really been enjoying them!
This one in particular is in Mexican Rose, and it’s a gorgeous hot pink. It has definite blue undertones, but I am a neutral skin tone, and I find it very wearable, even though I usually shy away from a bold lip.
A few swatches! My skin looks much darker than it really is (I am a perfect match to NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in 01 Siberia), but this is a true representation of Mexican Rose, regardless.
And yes, there was some serious blurring done in this photo… not quite brave enough for closeups, yet!
The wearability of these Velvet Gloss Lip Pencils is quite good. I wore mine through an entire evening of Thai food and ice-cream, and my lips had still retained a good deal of the glossiness. If you are wearing this without eating or drinking, I do believe you could go a good 6+ hours, with little trouble.
The glossiness had all worn off by the time I went to remove my makeup, but the color still remained, as it left my lips stained.
Oh, and there is an added bonus to going the route of the lip pencils, rather than the cult-classic NARS Lipglosses: That telltale plastic-like smell that NARS Lipglosses usually have is not a factor – not to mention, there is no stickiness with these glosses.
I find that my lips can become uncomfortably dry and flaky with many lipsticks and glosses (even with a nice thick coat of lip balm), but not with these! My lips stayed comfortably hydrated, even without the use of a lip balm prior to application… I found this to be rather impressive, and unexpected.
Mexican Rose is a rather opaque shade, and easily buildable. Definitely a new favorite that I am keeping in my makeup bag!
