I have a confession to make: I was really surprised by the response I received to this Instagram photo I posted of my black velvet Prada bow mules. What I believe to be the ugliest pair of shoes in my closet…
Because, well, you seemed to actually like them.
What, you actually like these ugly Pradas?
I must confess, when I purchased these, I literally bought them for house slippers. I am sure by now your eyes are rolling in your head. Who buys Prada mules for house slippers, right?
Worth mentioning, I have two giant dogs. They love to eat my slippers. I won’t bother mentioning how many pairs of slippers have gone to the slipper graveyard though, because that would make me really sad. I’ve lost many a good pair.
So, I bought something a little more expensive, as an incentive to myself to make sure I didn’t leave them tucked under a chair, floating around in my office, on the floor, etcetera.
But that didn’t quite work, because my robe is a nice luxe plush pink terrycloth. These are black suede, and don’t match. I like to match!
I’ll be honest, I don’t wear a lot of black. Partially, because of my Russian wolfhounds with their long, constantly shedding white coats. Also partially because now that my hair is its natural color and I’m no longer blonde, my hair disappears into black.
I’m always wearing light neutrals.
These shoes just really weren’t working for my slipper needs, so best laid plans aside, I went back to wearing my hideously ugly, but incredibly durable UGG slippers.
So these Prada mules remained in their box, tucked away into my closet.
I think these mules were released sometime in 2016, or early 2017, if that gives you any idea.
And so more recently, I was re-organizing my closet and, I don’t know why Prada doesn’t mark their boxes clearly, but they don’t. So there I was, left to investigate what was inside this particular blue box.
When I saw them, I imagined taking a photo of these would garner some interesting comments from my audience. I was fairly certain they’d align with my opinion on their (lack of) appeal.
Mistaken, to say the least.
I can’t believe how many of you tried to purchase these from the link I posted, and I realize that they are in fact, sold out everywhere in black… but I did track them down for you in blue, and burgundy.
I should mention however, that I could only find a few sizes left—anywhere!
Apparently I’m the only person on the planet to find these hideous, or intended to use them as actual slippers.
What do you think? Do you love these? Am I out of my mind? Let me know!
