Let’s talk about eyelashes.
THIS:
Eyelashes have always been my number one area of concern, beauty-speaking (if you discount skincare in that category), so I was in constant pursuit of the perfect mascara.
Unfortunately for me (though I have always had naturally long and thick lashes) on my left eye, my lashes grow in a combination of brown and blonde hairs.
Ah, the curse of blonde eyelashes.
I realized early on that I would need mascara for the rest of my life in some capacity. Accepting my fate, I married my eyelashes to a constant coat of the very best mascara I have ever used, which is this one by YSL.
THAT:
Four years ago, I was supposed to attend the wedding of two lovely people I had never met. I was out of my favorite mascara, and it would have taken at least three days to get it shipped to myself, having no access to a Sephora, Neiman Marcus, Saks, or Nordstrom.
I have never been successful in learning the art of applying false lashes to myself. My eyes are a very rounded almond shape, and the corners of the strip lashes never sit properly. So, in a moment of desperation, I decided to have Russian Volume eyelash extensions applied (shoutout to my current fabulous tech Whitney, who does the most beautiful work, and keeps my lashes healthy and looking pretty)!
It was instant love, and I have had them ever since, which has made the need for mascara obsolete. What it didn’t make obsolete however, are my blonde eyelashes.
The darker the better
I thankfully, had found a solution to this years previous, which I still use to this day. I also like to help my lash tech see all of my little blonde hairs, so I rely on tinting. I’ve been tinting my own lashes since I was 15 years old, with this Australian brand’s Eyelash & Brow Dye in Natural Black. It’s a complete game changer!
In yesterday’s post about my everyday makeup routine with Bobbi Brown products, you may have noticed the absence of eye makeup and mascara. Now you know the reason why!
I can’t imagine going back to mascara. The switch to eyelash extensions was absolutely one of the best beauty decisions I ever made!
I will conclude by saying this: don’t be afraid to try eyelash extensions because of what you’ve been told. I strongly recommend doing your own research, and always finding an extremely reputable technician. Here is a super helpful blog post by Sugarlash PRO about some myths surrounding eyelash extensions.
Have you tried any of these products or extensions for combatting blonde lashes, or just embraced them? I’d love to know, so leave a comment!
Love,
Ashley
